BPI EMV Debit Card Application
Another chapter in my #adultingAdventures.
This year is the era of EMV. For those of you who are living under a rock, EMV is the new standard in Debit Card / ATM security. Basically it means Europay, Visa and MasterCard.
Gone are the days that we are using magnetically striped cards. That is old school bros. Today, ATM cards are equipped with chips that will “make” frauds and ATM skimmings way more harder. Of course we still need to do our part by covering our hands when entering pin. It’s a two-way street you know.
So, the process is quite time consuming. Spent around 2 hours in the BPI Branch here in Cavite to update my EMV Card.
You need the following to upgrade your old ATM Debit Card to EMV Card.
- 1 Valid ID
- Surrender of old ATM card
- Fill up application details (yes again)
In order to claim your EMV Card, you must go to the branch where you opened your bank account in the first place. This is one issue that I guess they need to resolve because for those people who have multiple accounts like me, it will be hard to update the cards since one of my card is opened in The Fort, BGC. I dont have the time to go there anymore. It will be cool if they can deliver the cards inter-branch. Much less hassle for the account holders.
Once you have all 3 requirements. You can proceed to the most exciting part of the process. Waiting.
Depending on the busy-ness level of your branch, this can be a breeze or a bane to you. Mine took about 2 hours of standing and watching other people.
When my number was called, it was a quick process.
They will take your ID, old atm and hand over a form to you (they will give you if you have not done your homework of filling up the form in your house, you have to fill it up in the branch)
Once done, they will provide you your new shiny EMV atm card. I must say that the designers have done a really great job in creating this. Really sleek design if you ask me. It’s more upscale unlike the old one.
If you still have not updated your old ATM card into EMV, I strongly suggest you upgrade it now to avoid the hassle.
Also one good thing with EMV is that, if you have multiple accounts, all accounts max of 10 can be accessed by only using one card. Amazing right?
So, that’s my experience in my EMV card. If you have questions just go in the comments and will try to help you with your process the best way I could.
