Hackers Leaking Dropbox User Information
After some security issues before, world renowned cloud service Dropbox is once again facing some serious security problems.
Originally appeared in Reddit, a number of pastebin files have been posted and opening the link reveals hundreds of Dropbox users’ usernames and passwords. And looks like this is only the surface and there are millions to come.
The message with the credentials reads:
“Here is another batch of Hacked Dropbox accounts from the massive hack of 7,000,000 accounts
To see plenty more, just search on [redacted] for the term Dropbox hack.
More to come, keep showing your support”
This is just another go signal for Dropbox users to change their passwords now and activate their two-factor authentication for more security and avoid these kind of breach.
You can enable 2-factor authentication to your account by going to the dropdown in your account and choose “Settings.
You will be taken to a new page and select the “Settings” tab. Here you can enable the 2-factor authentication procedure.
Two-step verification activation
Personally I’ve been using Dropbox service for more than a year now for projects, good thing I’ve already abandoned it.
What I can advise to all people who uses their cloud service is prevent uploading sensitive files to the web. That is the best defense in this kind of scenes since there’s no safe place on the internet nowadays.
Update:
Dropbox said on a statement that their system was not hacked. The credentials were fetched through 3rd-party services that are connecting to Dropbox.
“Dropbox has not been hacked. These usernames and passwords were unfortunately stolen from other services and used in attempts to log in to Dropbox accounts. We’d previously detected these attacks and the vast majority of the passwords posted have been expired for some time now. All other remaining passwords have been expired as well.”
Whatever the case might be, it is of paramount importance right now to change passwords and create a stronger one. Especially if you are using your Dropbox in a business environment or personal one.
